The 5am Club – Robin Sharma ;Book Review
SEPTEMBER 30, 2021
Robin Sharma is a well known author for his series of books so I knew when I got this book, that it would be a worthwhile read. However, I thought it would be a typical self-help book with the cliché format of rules and tactics to achieve your goals but I was instantly proved wrong. It’s not. Robin conveys his deeply profound teachings in an amusing narrative so easy to understand. The book emphasizes the importance of a morning routine by highlighting the significance of making time for one’s self-improvement.
The book has immense wisdom, it’s no surprise I had so many ‘ahaa’ and ‘whoaa’ moments. It offers a lifestyle. I was a little skeptical at the beginning, resorting to excuses such as ‘I’m not a morning person’ but Robin saw right through that. I began the 5am Routine not so long ago, trial basis (as what I had been doing wasn’t working,and I basically have nothing to lose) so I figured, why not experience the ritual that has worked for so many people for over 20 years. So far, so good. Its a little hard but, what isn’t. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The 5am routine highlights a series of well outlined activities for the Glory hour – 5am to 6am- meant for increasing productivity, unfolding your genius, developing talent, deepening your character and escalating one’s spirit. A way to begin your day that sets you apart from everyone else. This includes;
. Working out /moving your body.Moving the body regularly lifts your concentration, speeds up the processing potency of your brain, elevates optism, promotes longevity (you can’t accomplish your goals when dead).
. Reflection – Meditation /Journaling
. Increasing your knowledge – Reading/Listening to Audiobooks & podcasts.
This is only a tip of the iceberg. I had so many take aways(brain tatoos) that resonated with me and how I live my life such as;
To make enormous changes in society, you need to first believe that you can. That takes alot of working on oneself and this book has been a great help in providing clarity and offering ways to increase my productivity.
Building willpower and discipline. Willpower is a muscle, and like any other, you have to flex it to grow it. Muscles expand only when we take them past our usual limits.
And some quotes that I’m keeping with me forever ;
. The things that get scheduled are the things that get done.
. The smallest of applications really is better than the grandest of intentions.
. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.
. Small daily achievements, when done consistently over time, definitely lead to stunning results.
We each do our best based on the level of awareness, maturity and personal security we are at. The more you know, the better you will do.
. The time you least feel like doing something is the best time to do it.
. There is simply no other investment vehicle available today that will yield a higher return than investing in your education and growth.
. Massive productivity in society without an abundant heart, an authentic sense of joy fulness and enduring inner peace is no different from the game of hamster plays on a running wheel.
. To lead is to inspire others by the way that you live.
. The more you like yourself, the less concerned you are with the opinions of others and the less you fear critism. (The more you build your willpower, the more you become confident with yourself, leading to liking yourself more.)
. If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn’t call it genius.
. Everyone dreams of being a legend until it comes time to do the work that legends do.
In all honesty, I NEEDED to read this book and I’d encourage anyone seeking ways to grow themselves, try something different from what hasn’t been working for them, to give it a read, with an open heart and mind.
One amazing thing I’ve discovered in the series of books I’ve read is that there has been a constant. Service. It really is the purpose of life. The less you make it all about you, the more your obsession focuses on the upliftment of others, and the more you’ll increase your identity as a genuine empire-builder and grow into a history-maker.
In conclusion, why not strengthen your relationship with your greatest self, fully know your genius and start a lifetime love affair with your most noble nature?
Go through life at world-class. Life’s too short not to treat yourself as amazingly as possible. And as you take better care of you, your relationship with others, your work, with money and with the world will be lifted correspondingly.
